This model is the “00-40 Stauffer Limited Edition,” crafted in the style of Johann Georg Stauffer, a Viennese luthier who influenced the brand’s founder, Christian Frederick Martin.
It is an extremely rare instrument, produced in a limited run of just 75 pieces in 1997.
The top is made of Sitka spruce, the sides and back of East Indian rosewood, and the fingerboard of ebony.
With a 12th-fret joint, a compact 00-size body, and scalloped bracing, it is characterized by a responsive tone that is both delicate and full-bodied, making it ideal for fingerstyle playing.
With its slotted headstock—a hallmark of the Stauffer style—and a sleek neck profile, it possesses a distinctly classical appearance that sets it apart from standard Martin models, exuding an air of elegance.
The decorative details are equally impressive, featuring a three-ring abalone rosette inspired by the Style 45, grained ivoroid binding, and the Style 45’s snowflake pattern inlays on the fingerboard.
The bridge features an ebony pointed-belly design with pyramid wings.
Furthermore, the bridge pins are made of fossil ivory adorned with abalone pearl dots, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail throughout.
