This model is the Silver Sky, the signature model of John Mayer, one of the three greatest guitarists of our time.

It was brought to market after two years of repeated research and development by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, CEO of PRS Guitars.

While its design is inspired by the traditional double-cutaway guitar beloved by countless artists worldwide, it incorporates unique ideas throughout.

This model is part of the SE Series, which offers high quality through rigorous quality control while keeping prices lower than previous models.

The body is crafted from poplar.
Lightweight and offering a well-balanced sound, poplar is widely adopted by many manufacturers as an alternative to alder, a classic wood for electric guitars.

The body color is the new shade, Laurel Green.

The neck is made of maple, and the fingerboard is rosewood.
Both are traditional woods that have played an indispensable role in the history of electric guitars.

The neck shape is the 635JM.
This unique neck shape was developed after meticulous research into the profiles of vintage guitars from 1963–64—models cherished by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith—and numerous rounds of testing.

The scale length is the traditional 25.5 inches.
This is slightly longer than PRS’s standard 25-inch scale.

The headstock is based on PRS’s proprietary design but has been adapted to a reverse-head configuration.
This is a Silver Sky-exclusive design tailored to John Mayer’s playing style.

The traditional Kluson-style tuners are mounted asymmetrically on the left and right sides.

The bridge features an original two-point tremolo unit.
This allows for smooth tremolo arm movement and minimizes tuning instability when using the tremolo arm.

In accordance with John Mayer’s specifications, the bridge is shipped in a fixed-in-place configuration.
While it does not support an up-strung tremolo arm, it transmits string vibration directly to the body, producing a tighter sound compared to a floating setup.

The pickups feature the 635JM “S,” exclusive to the SE SILVER SKY.
This is the SE version of a single-coil pickup modeled after the sound of vintage guitars from 1963–64.

Despite being single-coil pickups, they deliver a well-balanced sound where the high frequencies don’t become overly harsh.
This doesn’t mean the brightness is compromised; rather, by cutting out unnecessary frequency bands, it gives the impression of a traditional single-coil sound that’s been refined for a more modern sound.

The hardware, such as the knobs and jack plate, features PRS’s proprietary designs.
It’s appealing how a touch of individuality stands out against the traditional look.

This is a masterpiece that combines the feel of a vintage guitar with the high playability unique to PRS.
I can confidently say it offers quality that exceeds its price.

If you’re looking for a practical single-coil guitar, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod and neck are in good condition.
The body and finish have fine scratches overall; since the guitar is black, these are relatively noticeable, but there is no major damage, and it can be considered in excellent condition.
The electronics are in good working order.
