This is the Swamp Ash Special, manufactured in the USA, the original home of the Swamp Ash Special.
This model was previously produced in the USA and unfortunately was discontinued.
It was revived in the SE series in 2023, followed by the US line Swamp Ash Special in 2025.
The body is Swamp Ash with an undulating grain.
This wood has been used since the beginning in the history of solid guitars.
The top has a beautiful violin curve.
The combination of the Ash grain and the arch top gives it a different appeal from the Maple top models.
The neck is Maple and the fingerboard is Rosewood.
It is finished with a satin finish, which is rare for PRS, and is characterised by its smooth feel and good glide when moving from one position to another.
This model also features a bolt-on joint, which is rare for PRS.
Compared to models with a set neck joint, it is characterised by a clear sound with a sense of attack.
The neck shape is a traditional Pattern Regular.
Pickups are a 58/15 LT in the Neck and Bridge positions and a PRS Narrowfield in the Middle position.
The 58/15 LT is designed for the late 50s humbucker sound, with a clear and warm sound.
The PRS Narrowfield is a mini hum-size version of the acclaimed PRS 57/08 pickup.
It has the low noise of humbucker construction, but produces a brighter tone than a normal humbucker.
Controls include a 5-way blade switch and an independent coil tap switch.
This gives it a range of sound variations that makes it hard to believe it's just one guitar.
The layout of the controls is different from the orthodox 5-way and shows a lot of attention to detail.
The tuning machines are PRS Phase III Locking Tuners and the peg buttons are the latest wing buttons.
This has succeeded in reducing the weight of the head section and has also improved the sustain compared to previous models.
The bridge features a PRS-designed synchronised tremolo bridge.
This patented PRS bridge is characterised by smooth arming and tuning stability.
