Tom Anderson Guitarworks is a top-tier American high-end guitar brand renowned for its exceptional quality.
It is known for being the instrument of choice for many artists, including Neal Schon, Richie Sambora, Michael Landau, Koichi Yahori, and DAITA. (Titles omitted)
The owner, Tom Anderson, was formerly a professional guitarist who spent his career constantly striving for better sound and playability.
Drawing on that experience, he has incorporated many of his own ideas, using the finest woods and combining technology with craftsmanship to continue meticulously crafting each guitar by hand.
Furthermore, by limiting production volumes, the brand ensures perfect quality control for each individual instrument, achieving unparalleled high quality.
In terms of playability, the guitars feature an exquisite neck grip and low-action setup, providing a stress-free playing experience designed for the player’s comfort.
Furthermore, the neck remains exceptionally stable, and the use of low-wear stainless steel frets ensures consistently excellent playability over the long term.
The sound boasts a warm, familiar tone that suits a wide range of musical styles, while also offering a rich variety of tonal possibilities.
As a result, a single guitar can handle live performances, recordings, and more, regardless of genre or setting.
Because Tom Anderson was a player himself, his guitars are always crafted from a guitarist’s perspective; they can truly be called the ultimate instrument, made specifically for guitarists.
This model is the flagship Drop Top Classic.
The body top is made of flamed maple, and the body back is made of ash.
The top is finished in Key Lime Burst, while the back features a natural finish that highlights the ash grain, creating a beautiful contrast.
Furthermore, the binding around the body and the pearl-patterned pickguard combine to create a finish with a very luxurious feel.
The neck is made of maple.
The neck profile is the most popular Even-Taper, the nut width is 1 11/16 inches, and it features a long scale.
The fingerboard features a shape known as a tapered fingerboard, where the radius changes from flat at the low frets to a more curved radius at the high frets.
By keeping the radius change minimal—between 12 and 14 inches—the guitar offers smooth playability across all positions while achieving improved sustain despite its low action.
The neck joint utilizes Tom Anderson’s original A-Wedge design.
Although it is a bolt-on construction using two screws, the trapezoidal shape of the body and neck increases the contact area, significantly reducing the likelihood of center misalignment.
The larger contact area also influences the sound.
The neck joint features a smooth, heel-less finish, improving playability in the higher positions.
Features such as the slightly tapered fingerboard and the unique joint demonstrate the highly technical and intricate craftsmanship involved.
The frets are Tom Anderson’s original stainless steel frets.
The fret size is Medium.
They are characterized by high durability and a smooth touch, and are said to possess acoustic characteristics very similar to nickel frets despite being made of stainless steel.
The pickups include SC1 models in the neck and middle positions, and an HC3 in the bridge position.
Tom Anderson’s pickups are original designs, meticulously handcrafted in-house using machinery dating back to the 1950s.
The SC1 is a single-coil pickup equipped with a hum-canceling function.
It delivers a classic single-coil sound while remaining virtually noise-free.
The HC3 delivers a vintage-style sound while offering high output.
The controls include a 5-way selector switch, a VA Booster, and an Add Bridge function, providing traditional control while offering an exceptionally wide range of sound variations.
The tuning machines are locking-style, and the bridge features a vintage-style tremolo unit.
This is a guitar you can enjoy for a lifetime, combining a refined, beautiful appearance with top-tier playability and superb tone.
Approximately 90% of the frets remain.
The truss rod and neck are in good condition.
The body and finish show faint scratches when held up to the light, a small dent near the controls, a small dent on the back of the headstock, and slight tarnish on the metal parts; however, there is no major damage, and it can be considered in excellent condition.
The electronics are in good working order.
No obvious modifications were found.
