| Knaggs Guitars is an American high-end guitar brand founded in 2009 by Joe Knaggs and Peter Wolf. It's known for being used by many guitarists, including Steve Stevens, Larry Mitchell, Billy Morrison, Tsuyoshi Ima, and Akira (UVERworld). Based on years of accumulated woodworking skills and guitar design know-how, Knaggs employs unique body shapes, hardware, and set-neck constructions. While respecting traditional guitar styles, it fuses modern playability with Knaggs' distinctive design philosophy. This time, TONIQ directly ordered from Knaggs Guitars and selected several models. This is the Keya-J, a simplified version based on the Keya. The Keya is a representative model that features a double-cutaway design and a thin body shape, making it lightweight and easy to handle. The body is made of mahogany. The body features a Crème gloss finish, and the combination of a flat top and Tortoise pickguard creates a design with a somewhat retro feel. The neck is made of mahogany, and the fingerboard is Indian rosewood. With its slim 85 neck shape, 24.75-inch scale length, and 12-inch fingerboard radius, it offers a somewhat modern playability. The finish around the neck is exceptionally fine, and the feel is instantly familiar the moment you place your hand on it. One of Knaggs' key features is its set-neck joint. By carefully joining the body and neck, string vibrations are efficiently transmitted to the body, producing rich harmonics and long sustain. When you actually hold it, you'll feel that Knaggs is not simply a brand that uses expensive wood, but one that truly excels in craftsmanship and meticulous finishing. The pickups are an H/P90 configuration, with a Seymour Duncan P90 in the neck position and an SH-4 in the bridge position. The P90 pickup in the neck position, combined with the mahogany body, delivers a thick, straight sound with just the right amount of crispness. On the other hand, the SH-4 pickup in the bridge position produces a different, more edgy and powerful sound compared to the P90. While maintaining a classic look, the combination of two pickups with different characteristics allows for a wide range of sounds, from clean to heavily overdriven. The bridge features Knaggs' proprietary "Influence Bridge." This integrated brass bridge and tailpiece design ensures a wide contact surface with the body, directly transmitting string vibrations to the body. Despite its simple structure, it also supports octave adjustment, making it a practical and well-thought-out Knaggs original hardware that effectively captures string vibrations. This guitar embodies Knaggs Guitars' long-cultivated expertise in wood selection, woodworking techniques, hardware design, and Joe Knaggs' design philosophy.
