| Kz Guitar Works is a brand based in Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, that manufactures high-quality guitars. They are also known for manufacturing the Brian May signature model guitar for Queen, which has garnered worldwide acclaim. While the Red Special is highly regarded, the manufacturer's original models are also highly praised for their excellent playability and high-quality sound, and are currently used by many renowned guitarists, including Kazumi Watanabe. This model, the Astronaut, is based on the RS style, which Kz Guitar Works excels at, but has been refined to be more accessible to a wider range of players and to offer modern playability. Kz Guitar Works has brought to life the long-held vision of Greg Fryer, an Australian builder known for restoring the original Red Special. The body is made of Big-Leaf Mahogany. With its original body design, pickguard, unique headstock shape, and F-holes, this guitar boasts a one-of-a-kind look. The neck is made of Big-Leaf Mahogany, and the fingerboard is made of Ebony. The neck shape is reminiscent of a vintage Fender Stratocaster, and the combination of a 25.5-inch scale, 12-inch fingerboard radius, and medium-sized frets provides a comfortable grip that many guitarists will find familiar, while also offering high playability. The pickups are original KGW T-S pickups. These pickups are modeled after 1960s British pickups, and are meticulously crafted with magnetic force measurements identical to those of Brian May's own guitar. The sound is both delicate and grand, possessing a truly exquisite tone that many guitarists have longed for. Furthermore, it is faithful to picking nuances, directly reflecting the player's technique. While the bridge, tremolo unit, and other hardware are original designs, the tuning machines are Gotoh SG301 MG-T, and the nut is made of BLACK TUSQ, demonstrating attention to practicality and stability.
