| Gibson is a king of guitars, having produced countless legendary instruments. It's beloved by countless top artists, including Angus Young, Tony Iommi, and Shinji Wajima. The SG, introduced in 1961, quickly captivated many guitarists and continues to support the rock scene today. While Gibson has the iconic Les Paul, the SG has established a firm position as a model with a more aggressive and sharp sound and overwhelming playability. This particular model is a 1966 SG Standard, a late-era example with a small pickguard. It features details unique to this period, such as the pre-repositioning of the crown inlay on the headstock, a deep joint, an approximately 14-degree headstock angle, a narrow neck, a large cavity, chrome hardware, and a 3-ply truss rod cover. Judging from the location of the scratches, it appears to be the same guitar featured on pages 52-54 of the "Gibson SG Player's Book," published by Rittor Music in 2020. This guitar features a classic combination of mahogany body and neck, and a rosewood fretboard. Its thin, lightweight body and double-cutaway design allow for easy access to the final fret, making it exceptionally easy to handle among vintage guitars. It's equipped with two sticker-numbered humbucker pickups. The sticker numbering dates from the period after the patent was granted, when the "PATENT NO. 2,737,842" decal was used. The sound is appealing, with a dry midrange, sharp attack, and a combination of the raw and sweet tones characteristic of an SG. The bridge is a Tune-O-Matic with a Maestro Vibrola Tailpiece. This allows for smooth tremolo action. The design also contributes to its aesthetic appeal; it's a vibrant and alluring design unique to this era, distinct from SGs from the large-guard period onwards. The Lyre-stamped vibrola extending across the thin body is a detail that truly symbolizes a Vintage SG. A historically significant instrument; please consider it. Approximately 65% of the frets remain. The truss rod and neck are in good condition. The body and paintwork show age-appropriate dents, scratches, weather checking, and paint chipping. The 6th string tuning peg is stiff. There is a slight gap at the body-neck joint, a dent at the 14th fret on the back of the neck, unevenness on the Maestro plate, and a dent and distortion when rotating on the bridge pickup tone knob. The electronics are in good condition. There are signs that the tuning pegs were replaced once, but the original pegs have been reinstalled.
