The ES-335 was introduced by Gibson in 1958.

It features a distinctive double-cutaway hollow body.

Inside the body, the central section—where the pickups and bridge are mounted—is solid wood, known as the center block. The sides are hollow and feature F-holes, similar to a violin.

Due to its structure, which lies somewhere between a solid-body guitar and an acoustic guitar, this style is known as a semi-acoustic guitar.

The appeal of semi-acoustic guitars lies in their greater resistance to feedback compared to fully acoustic designs, making them perfectly suitable for rock music.
