The Jay Bird is DJG's flagship model, featuring a Jazzmaster-inspired body shape, rich Gibson-style mini humbuckers, and a vibrato unit for smooth bending.
The body is made of alder, the neck is made of quarter-sawn maple, and the fingerboard is made of a special 12-radius ebony. The frets are medium jumbo Jescar. The shaping around the fingerboard and the detailed fretwork are exquisite, a feat only possible with a handmade piece by an independent builder.
The pickups are McNelly Gold foil Mini Humbuckers. While not particularly popular in Japan, they are highly regarded by American builders for their wide range, excellent responsiveness, and unique sound, full of air. Other unique features include a special rubber-coated magnet and gold cover.
Despite the solid body, the sound is characterized by an airy feel, almost like a semi-acoustic guitar. It combines crispness with the smoothness of a tremolo bridge, making it a particularly excellent match for crunch-tinged drive sounds.
