This model is the ASAT Classic, G&L’s flagship model.
The ASAT Classic can be considered the final iteration of the Telecaster designed by Leo Fender, the father of the Telecaster.
As a limited edition model, this guitar features a thinline construction.
Its semi-hollow body with F-holes produces a distinctive sound that lies somewhere between solid-body and acoustic guitars, combining just the right amount of resonance with a tight, focused tone.
Weighing less than 2.7 kg, it is also highly maneuverable.
The body is made of alder, while the neck and fingerboard are maple.
Although it features a traditional style, elements affecting playability—such as the back contour, a slightly flat 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, and medium jumbo frets—are modern.
It is equipped with G&L’s signature MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickups.
By placing a ceramic magnet beneath the coil to boost output and reducing the number of coil windings, these pickups successfully address the traditional weaknesses of single-coil pickups: lack of power and excessive noise.
Furthermore, the height of the pickup’s pole pieces can be adjusted.
This is a rare feature for single-coil pickups and is a welcome specification for guitarists who want to precisely balance the volume of each string.
The bridge features a 6-way saddle bridge.
Traditional Telecasters have two strings per saddle, making precise octave tuning impossible; however, this design allows for precise adjustment for each individual string.
In terms of sound, it features the distinctive ASAT tone, characterized by a unique blend of warmth and clarity.
The combination of the high-frequency response inherent to single-coil pickups and the semi-hollow body structure results in a sound that balances crisp clarity with rich harmonics.
