Knaggs Guitars is a high-end American guitar brand founded in 2009 by Joe Knaggs and Peter Wolf.

It is known for being used by many guitarists, including Steve Stevens, Larry Mitchell, Billy Morrison, Tsuyoshi Kon, and Akira (UVERworld).

Based on years of accumulated woodworking skills and guitar design know-how, Knaggs employs unique body shapes, hardware, and set-neck constructions. While respecting traditional guitar styles, it fuses modern playability with Knaggs' distinctive design philosophy.

For this project, TONIQ directly ordered from Knaggs Guitars and selected several models.

From those, we chose the Kenai Trem, a model based on the "Kenai," a representative model of Knaggs Guitars' Influence Series, equipped with a tremolo unit.

Based on the beautiful traditional single-cut archtop body shape, this model combines a high-performance tremolo system with a classic look, achieving a wide range of musical expression. This order features a solid black body, gold hardware, an ebony fretboard, and binding on the body, neck, and headstock, creating a luxurious look reminiscent of a Gibson Les Paul Custom.

The body back is made of mahogany, and the top is T2 maple.

While T1 maple boasts the most beautiful grain, T2 maple is also selected for its exceptional beauty.

While all-mahogany or T3 maple are options for a solid black finish, we deliberately chose the beautifully grained T2 maple and opted for the luxurious finish of a solid black.

At first glance, the black color conceals the wood grain, but thanks to the ultra-thin finish achieved through advanced painting techniques, the flame maple grain emerges from beneath the black when light hits it.

Furthermore, the maple grain is revealed in areas where the paint has been worn away by the Medium Relic treatment, particularly around the elbow rest.

The aged gold hardware and weather checking on the body create a rugged, well-played look.

The combination of materials and finish—intentionally concealing the beautiful T2 Maple within the black finish—is a unique charm of this particular instrument.

The neck is made of mahogany, and the fingerboard is ebony.

It features traditional specifications such as a '59 neck shape, 24.75-inch scale length, and 12-inch fingerboard radius.

However, the neck grip has a satin finish, and the heel is further smoothed.

The finish around the neck is exceptional, offering a comfortable, natural feel the moment you place your hand on it.

Furthermore, the smooth feel of the satin finish and the meticulous workmanship of the heel give this classic single-cutaway style a modern playability.

And one of Knaggs' defining features is its set-neck joint.

By carefully joining the body and neck, string vibrations are efficiently transmitted to the body, producing rich harmonics and long sustain.

When you actually hold the guitar, you'll feel that Knaggs is not just a brand that uses high-quality wood, but a brand that truly excels in craftsmanship, evident in the precision of the neck's construction and meticulous finish.

The pickups are custom-voiced Lollar Imperial K pickups, specially voiced for Knaggs Guitars guitars.

While inheriting the renowned rich harmonics, clear highs, and tight lows of the Lollar Imperial, the sound is tailored to the tonewoods and resonance of Knaggs guitars.

It boasts a classic humbucker-like fullness, yet each note retains a distinct and well-defined tone.

The bridge features Knaggs' proprietary "Chesapeake Tremolo" design.

This tremolo unit, featuring a hinge structure different from the typical knife-edge design, reflects Joe Knaggs' design philosophy, aiming to preserve the guitar's natural resonance while incorporating a tremolo system.

Its appeal lies not only in its sound but also in its smooth operation, supporting a wide range of arming techniques, from subtle vibrato to dramatic pitch changes.

Furthermore, the combination with locking tuners ensures tuning stability, making it ideal for active use of the tremolo.

This special Kenai Trem, available only through TONIQ orders, fully embodies the charm of Knaggs Guitars' long-cultivated wood selection, woodworking techniques, hardware design, and Joe Knaggs' design philosophy for guitars.
