| Gibson is a king of guitars, having produced countless legendary instruments. It's beloved by countless top artists, including Jimmy Page, Slash, and Zakk Wylde. This particular instrument is a 1978 RD Artist. It features a highly advanced design for its time and is a rare model, produced for only a short period. The body and neck are made of maple, and the fretboard is ebony. It boasts an original look with its innovative body design, gold hardware, block inlays on the fretboard, and flying F-hole headstock inlay. The scale length is 25.5 inches, a specification different from typical Gibson models. And the most distinctive feature of the RD Artist is its unique electronic circuitry. This guitar features active electronics jointly developed by Gibson and Moog engineers, and its two dedicated Series VI humbuckers and built-in preamp allow for a wide range of sound shaping previously unseen in Gibson guitars. Furthermore, it boasts the "Expansion/Compression" circuit and "Bright" mode, features not typically found in standard guitars. The Expansion/Compression circuits alter the response and sustain to picking. With the bridge pickup, Expansion produces a quick, attack-driven, and explosive response. Conversely, with the neck pickup, Compression suppresses the attack while emphasizing sustain. The Bright mode further enhances the high frequencies, resulting in a sharper sound. In addition, each pickup has independent volume control, and each features an active EQ with cut/boost capabilities for both bass and treble. This allows for a significantly wider range of sound shaping compared to typical Gibson passive circuits. Considering the late 1970s, this was a remarkably advanced system, and one of the main reasons the RD Artist still maintains its unique presence today. It features a Tune-o-matic bridge and a TP-6 tailpiece. This is a very unique model that reflects Gibson's exploration of new guitar possibilities in the late 1970s, taking a different direction from traditional Les Pauls and SGs. It's recommended not only as a collector's item, but also for those who want to enjoy the original sound and playability unique to this era. Why not take this opportunity? The frets have approximately 70% remaining. The truss rod is stiff, but approximately 70 degrees of movement has been confirmed. The neck has a buzzing sound at the 20th fret, so the string height is set at 2.2mm on the 6th string side and 1.7mm on the 1st string side. The body and paintwork show overall scratches and dents, tarnishing on metal parts, a large buckle scratch in the center of the body back, a crack in the back panel, protruding screws, a crack in the truss rod cover, and signs of wear throughout the headstock. The electronics are in good condition. No obvious modifications were observed.
