Description & Condition
Description & Condition
| Gibson is a renowned guitar brand founded in the United States in 1902. The Les Paul, introduced in 1952, is a flagship Gibson model used in various genres, including rock. Among them, the sunburst Les Paul Standard from 1958-60 is known as the "Burst" and is considered one of the pinnacles of electric guitars. Due to its limited production run, original 1959 models often fetch tens of millions of yen or more today. The Custom Shop Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard is a reproduction of that 1959 model. Affectionately known as the R9, it's a coveted model for many guitarists. This particular instrument features the "Murphy Aged" finish, aged by Tom Murphy. Tom Murphy is a craftsman who was involved in the creation of the Historic Collection in 1993 and is known as a leading expert in aging techniques. Afterward, he became independent and worked for many years as an external craftsman, handling Gibson's aging process. Currently, aging is carried out by a specialized team at Gibson Custom Shop's "Murphy Lab." This particular instrument is from the era when Murphy himself was involved in the aging process. The first thing that catches the eye is the magnificent flame pattern on the figured maple top. The entire body has a deep, dense grain. The color is a beautiful sunburst, a tasteful hue reminiscent of a vintage 1959 model that has faded over many years. Weather checking is present throughout, and the pickup covers and aluminum tailpiece have also been given a tarnished finish. Approximately 20 years have passed since its manufacture, and the genuine aging process has layered on top of the aging process, which is a key point. It has a natural texture that cannot be achieved with a brand new aged model. The body features a traditional combination of mahogany back and maple top, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. The neck has a slightly thicker '59 style grip, making it comfortable to hold. The rosewood fingerboard is dark and made from high-quality, tightly grained wood. The contrast with the yellowed binding and dish inlays is beautiful, further enhancing the vintage feel. The pickups have been replaced with a set of Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs. Lindy Fralin is a pickup manufacturer based in Virginia, USA, renowned for its hand-wound vintage-style pickups. The Pure PAF, as its name suggests, is a model designed to replicate the PAF sound of the 1950s. It is characterized by its clear high frequencies and wide range of sound that responds faithfully to picking. As a popular pickup replacement for Les Pauls, this combination further enhances the potential of the R9. This guitar fully captures the feel and sound of a 1959 model, both in terms of looks and sound. As one of the closest options to a genuine Burst, don't miss this opportunity. The frets have approximately 90% remaining. The truss rod and neck are in good condition. Due to the relic finish, it's difficult to identify any new scratches on the body and paintwork. The electronics are in good condition. The pickups have been replaced with a LINDY FRALIN / Pure PAF Set. The bridge pickup volume pot was faulty and was replaced by our repair technician. Conductive paint has been applied to the control cavity.
