Description & Condition

Gibson is a guitar brand founded in 1902 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

Gibson has produced numerous models that have shaped the history of electric guitars, including the Les Paul, ES-335, SG, and Flying V.

This is a 1972 Les Paul Custom '54 Reissue Limited Edition.

The Les Paul Custom is the top-of-the-line Les Paul model, introduced in 1954.

It is known by the nickname "Black Beauty" due to its black finish and gold hardware.

This particular model is a reproduction of the 1954 specifications and was only produced for a short period from 1972 to 1973.

The serial number on the back of the headstock starting with "LE" is a unique feature of this Limited Edition.

The body and neck are both made of one-piece mahogany, and the fretboard is ebony.

While typical Les Paul Customs of that era featured a maple top and a pancake-style back, this instrument, like the original 1954 model, utilizes a one-piece mahogany body without a maple top.

Weighing 4.075kg, it's a relatively lightweight Les Paul Custom.

This is a welcome feature, making it less tiring for long playing sessions or live performances.

The headstock angle is 17 degrees, the same as the 1950s, rather than the 14 degrees used in standard models from 1968 onwards.

The headstock shape also replicates the 1954 model.

Furthermore, it lacks the volute found on the back of the headstock of standard models of the time, maintaining the same specifications as the 1950s.

The pickups are the same configuration as the 1954 Custom: an Alnico V (P-480) in the neck position and a P-90 in the bridge position.

This is the two-single-coil layout before the switch to humbuckers in 1957.

The neck features an Alnico V single-coil pickup with square pole pieces, also known as the "Staple" due to its shape.

This is a limited edition model produced by Gibson in the 1970s, a reproduction of the 1954 Les Paul Custom.

Don't miss this opportunity!

The frets have approximately 90% remaining.

The truss rod and neck are in good condition.

The body and paintwork show some minor scratches and dents, and some cracks in the binding. There is some paint peeling at the tip of the headstock, where the wood is visible.

The electronics are in good condition.

There are signs of a repaired neck break. The bridge studs have been replaced. The guitar has been refretted and re-nutted.

It appears to be a narrow-tall type neck.
