Sadowsky is a high-end New York brand whose clientele includes top-tier musicians such as Jim Hall, Pat Metheny, and Lee Ritenour. (Titles omitted)
This is a masterpiece from the Sadowsky NYC line, which seems to have become increasingly rare on the market lately.
This instrument is a custom-made model based on the Sadowsky NYC ST Type, which was produced in the late 1980s.
Its most distinctive feature is the inclusion of a Tom Anderson neck from 1988.
While Tom Anderson is now known as one of the world’s leading high-end guitar brands, back in the 1980s, the company supplied necks and bodies to numerous renowned builders, including Roger Sadowsky, John Suhr, and James Tyler.
This guitar is a symbol of that era—a rare specimen reportedly assembled by Roger Sadowsky using a Tom Anderson neck paired with a Warmoth body.
It also holds historical significance as a testament to the era before the builders who now lead the high-end guitar scene established their own brands, making it a highly intriguing collector’s item.
The body features a beautiful flamed maple top and an alder back, while the neck is maple and the fingerboard is rosewood—a classic combination of materials typical of the era.
The pickups have been upgraded to K&T S-63s for the neck and middle positions, and a K&T FOJ (rear) for the bridge.
It delivers a sound with delicate nuances reminiscent of a vintage Stratocaster, yet with a sense of power.
The controls include one volume knob, two tone knobs, a 5-way selector switch, and a 3-way booster toggle switch.
Additionally, it features an internal trimmer to adjust the boost level, allowing for precise tuning to the player’s preferences.
The rear tone control is a push/pull type and supports coil tapping.
This enables a wide range of sound shaping, from sparkling single-coil tones to powerful humbucker sounds.
It features SPERZEL tuning machines and a Floyd Rose Tremolo bridge.
This setup minimizes tuning drift while allowing for dynamic tremolo arm use.
Left-hand vibrato adds a distinct nuance to the tone, covering everything from subtle to passionate vibrato and further expanding your expressive range.
This guitar vividly captures the unique charm of the early 1980s—the dawn of the high-end guitar era—where the histories of brand builders Tom Anderson, Roger Sadowsky, and Warmoth, each of whom has since established a solid reputation, intersect.
